BRIEFS

The EcoHealth journal will now be available through Pubmed/Medline search engine.  To quote Bruce Wilcox, the chief editor, "this is a huge development".  Presence on Pubmed and Medline will greatly expand journal access and affirms the high quality of human health related research already being published in the journal.

A great opportunity! The 2009 International Development Research Centre (IDRC) Internship Awards is now open and the deadline for submissions is September 12, 2008. These 1 year research intern positions will start on January 1, 2009. Please see the website for eligibility details, in particular that "Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada and citizens of developing countries may submit an application."  The Ecosystem Approaches to Human Health Program Initiative is hoping to host one of the interns.  For other awards/scholarships offered by IDRC please visit the IDRC Training and Awards Program's website. Check out more opportunities on our funding page.

International EcoHealth Forum 2008 will be held 1-5 December 2008, in Mérida, Mexico.  Collaborating institutions include the International Development Research Centre in Canada, the Mexican National Institute for Public Health (INSP), the Brazilian Institute of Ecological Research (IPÊ), and the Brazilian Institute of Public Health (FIOCRUZ).  Abstract submission will close July 15th - visit the website for more details and the latest on funding and travel support.

Kosta Tzoulas, who represented the Student Section at COHAB 2: Conference on Health & Biodiversity, 25-28 February 2008, in Galway, Ireland, wrote up an overall summary report and a separate report on the side event entitled "Biodiversity, Development and Health in Higher Education: Current Provision and Future Potential".  The draft COHAB overall report and the draft side event report are now available.

WHAT'S NEW?

Launching the Real Website!  Welcome to the EcoHealth Student Section Website now upgraded from the beta version.  The purpose of the EcoHealth student section is to further the goals of the International Association for Ecology and Health (EcoHealth): "to strive for sustainable health of people, wildlife, and ecosystems by promoting discovery, understanding, and transdisciplinarity". The EcoHealth student section will engage the growing student community with dialogue and exchange of information, experiences, and sharing of resources.  From the outset, student enthusiasm and research has been an important propellant in the EcoHealth movement and students will be important contributors to future success. Email us articles (students@ecohealth.net) and items to publish on the website or post your own comments in response on the News/Forum page.  We want to hear your ideas on ecology and health issues, and your feedback on our work!  Submit information
