Bruce Wilcox is professor and chair of the Division of Ecology and Health, John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), University of Hawaii at Manoa. Dr. Wilcox joined the JABSOM faculty in 2001 to lead the development of the new Division of Ecology and Health. Dr. Wilcox is recognized as a founder of conservation biology, co-edited the field's first textbook in 1980, and was a co-founder the Society for Conservation Biology. His early research focused on applications of population biology and ecology to conservation of biodiversity. His current research and teaching focuses on social-ecological systems and human health, examining the connections between community, culture and health in the Pacific Islands , as well as conducting research on the ecology of infectious disease. Dr. Wilcox has worked extensively throughout the world as a consultant and advisor on sustainable development and natural resources management. Dr. Wilcox received a B.A. and Ph.D., in Biology from the University of California , San Diego ; and an M.S., in Ecology from Yale University . He previously has been Consulting Associate Professor of Human Biology at Stanford University and Adjunct Associate Professor of Biology at Montana State University . He has been an Affiliate Faculty of the Graduate Program in Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation Biology at the University of Hawaii since 1997.
